Hudl Heads to Nike

Every summer, the nation’s best high school football players invade Nike World Headquarters just outside of Portland, Ore., for one week. They’re coached by some of the game’s biggest names to compete in drills designed to find the fastest, strongest, and most agile players in each position. For the second year in a row, Hudl will be there to capture the highlights of every event, not just to document player performance, but also to give fans a glimpse at the future of college football.

The Opening is a five-day event comprised of the Elite 11 Finals, the SPARQ National Championship, and a non-contact 7-on-7 tournament.

To qualify for the Opening, athletes attended Nike Football Training Camps across the country. Hudl traveled to every camp to record and upload evidence of these drills, allowing players to tag highlights from the camp footage.

Of every player we got on film from February through June, only 161 are on their way to Oregon this weekend. The top 18 quarterbacks will compete in the Elite 11 Finals beginning with two days of practice evaluated by Nike coaches through Hudl film and reports. Day 3 - July 8 - is all about SPARQ testing. Every athlete is timed in the 40-yard dash and agility shuttle before their 6.6-lb., powerball throw and standing vertical are measured.

At the end of the day, the top athletes from each position do it all one more time before a winner is announced.

Capping off the week is the 7-on-7 pool play and tournament. Hudl provides video, breakdown data, and reports on every game to help coaches choose the top athletes and an Elite 11 winner. And when you look at the list of attendees*, we can’t imagine picking the best of the best will be easy, but it should be fun.

Just be sure to follow @Hudl on Twitter and like us on Facebook so you don’t miss a second of the action! Until things kick off next week, browse the positions and watch a few reels for a look at what’s in store.
