We promise this isn’t a dating profile. Matt Sheets has been with Hudl for a little over a year and absolutely crushes his role in quality assurance – as evidenced by the Dominate award he won earlier this year.
But rather than talk about his daily routine of making sure athlete profile pages are cool, awesome and totally sick, we figured we’d dig a little deeper to learn about the real Sheets. Because you never truly know a person until you know their astrological sign, right? We thought so.
“I was born in Lincoln and have lived here my entire life. I was the smallest kid in my grade until high school, so I gave up playing sports pretty early and focused on music instead – but I’ve always been a huge Husker football fan. If you think there’s a better all-time team than Tommie Frazier and the 1995 Nebraska team, sorry, but you’re wrong.
“Some people say I play way too much ultimate frisbee, and they’re probably right. I currently run the Lincoln Ultimate Disc Association, which runs four leagues each year in addition to a charity benefit tournament. I may have gotten a couple of concussions and torn my ACL, but I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.
“I graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in accounting, but I’ve (thankfully) been moving farther and farther away from accounting work since I left school. I started at Hudl in July 2012, and after working exclusively with our Fan team since then, I’m excited to move to the Basketball squad to better help those coaches win.”
What does your daily horoscope say about this weekend?
I just found out that I’m a Taurus, which means I get horoscopes like “You can turn on the charm now, enabling you to collaborate with your coworkers as the agreeable Libra New Moon lands in your 6th House of Employment.” So I got that going for me, which is nice.
If you had to trust one other Hudlie with your life, who would it be?
Probably our HR manager, Adam Parrish. He’s as close to a babysitter as we have around the Hudl office and he’s already responsible for my health insurance and paycheck, so why not my actual life as well? And he regularly crushes me in ping pong, so I assume those skills will translate well to this situation, right?
What’s your favorite thing about fall?
Other than it being football season, the best thing about fall is that it’s almost winter. I’ve been skiing most of my life, and I’ve already got my trips to Colorado planned. It snowed in Breckenridge last night, and opening weekend is just over a month away!
What one thing are you most afraid of?
HEIGHTS. But not all heights, I guess. Put me on top of a really tall mountain and I’m fine, but ask me to look over the edge of a tall building? No, thank you.
What’s your favorite part of your specific role at Hudl?
So far, as part of the Fan team, it’s been trying to understand what our athletes want to showcase on their profile pages, and helping build tools that let them do it. It’s always awesome seeing tweets from kids who are proud to show off their Hudl highlights.
