Erik Person has been part of the Hudl team longer than almost anyone, but that doesn’t mean we all know him super well.
You see, Erik lives in Texas. We try not to judge him for it, but when the guy’s a pilot and doesn’t use his flying abilities to make frequent Lincoln visits, grudges are held. Then he makes some witty comment and gets everyone to laugh and we’re magically unmad. It’s so unfair.
In all seriousness, Erik is a funny guy. If he wasn’t working at Hudl, he’d be the third member of the Penn, Teller and Person comedy and magic trio - taller than Teller, but less verbal than Penn. Really, he said that. Here’s what else he said:
“I’m originally from San Diego, Calif., but grew up in Nebraska. Mom wouldn’t let us kids play football, so the closest I could get was rooting for the Cornhuskers.
“I eventually attended the University of Nebraska, earning a degree in computer science. I actually started working for Hudl in 2007 while I was a sophomore at UNL. I like to brag to Matt Mueller that I’ve worked here longer than him, but then he points out he’s a VP. That shuts me up pretty quickly.
“I moved to Austin, Texas in 2009 and never want to leave. Kind of concerning? I spend my days floating down rivers with Seger blasting from the boom box.”
If you could sit down and have a one-on-one conversation with any famous person, dead or alive, who would it be?
Orville Wright. Wilbur gets all the attention. I want Orville’s story heard, too. He invented the frickin’ airplane, you guys.
Favorite concert you’ve ever attended. What made it so great?
I saw Neon Trees perform in San Francisco last summer. I love to (affectionately) heckle bands at concerts and I was right up front for this one. After calling for the song “Animal” a few times during song breaks, the singer let me know they’d be getting to it soon. It was the best shoutout I’ve ever received at a concert in the Yerba Buena Gardens.
If you could do anything and get away with it, what would you do?
Eat nothing but Doritos Locos Tacos. That’s what America is all about. If you don’t like it, you can hit the bricks to Mexico.
Got any pet peeves?
My landlord doesn’t allow pets.
What’s something you just hate to do?
Bury dead pets.
Favorite Hudl memory.
Dancing with the entire Hudl crew at Margaritaville in Las Vegas. Of all the places to go in Vegas, we end up at Margaritaville every year and it’s always rockin’. All the cool companies like to say “Work hard. Play hard.” Hudl is no different, ‘cept it’s cooler.
