How Yahoo! Killed Flickr and Lost the Internet
A frequent conversation in the Hudl office is about the need to constantly innovate. Flickr is a case study in why this is so important. Once Flickr was bought by Yahoo!, innovation stopped, the site became stale, and Instagram has now surpassed them.
CrossFit: A Sport for the Other Guy
Source: RX Review
This article touches on something that has become a routine part of my life. CrossFit is seemingly everywhere these days, but for those who are not familiar with it, CrossFit is the sport of fitness. Instead of focusing on strength, speed or endurance, CrossFit allows you to become a jack-of-all-trades. This sport forces you to push your mind and body further than you thought it could ever go.
“…as time passes, I am starting to realize that CrossFit is a sport for the other guy. CrossFit is a sport where heart matters more than anything else.”
The Stubborn Persistence of Textbooks
A few weeks back, Bryce wrote about the changing climate of books brought on by the eBook revolution. One area where this appears to be somewhat contradictory is in the textbook space. Certain features of eBooks (lack of student engagement due to distractions or limited navigation and note-taking functionality) keep textbooks the popular choice. Perhaps there is a balance between the two that can make the traditional textbooks more accessible and obselete at the same time.
“A more exact way to put it might be to say that textbooks are being replaced not by e-textbooks, but by curated collections of course-specific materials, some online, some on paper.”
Ending the Argument: Rust vs. Rest
Is there any truth to the idea that a team can have too much rest during the playoffs? Not much, says Grantland’s Bill Barnwell. This debate has come up a lot in the past week as the NBA playoffs kicked into high gear. Morgan, our die-hard Laker’s fan in the office, has been wearing her Kobe jersey for five days straight to support the Lakeshow. According to Barnwell, Morgan watching her Lakers lose Game 1 of their series against OKC is one of many clues showing “rust” is a myth.
“You can mention rust or use it as an excuse all you want, but the reality is that there’s scant evidence of it existing as a problem for NBA teams. The Thunder’s performance on Monday night was simply the latest example.”comments powered by Disqus
